There
is a choice of direct public transport options from Manchester Airport
to Scotland including such cities as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen
and Inverness.
There is a choice of travelling by air, rail or coach.
Flights to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen are frequent with BMI and
British Airways competing. On the Edinburgh run, Jet2 a low cost budget
airline flys several times each day.

Even to Inverness there are 3 flights a day during the week.
Manchester
has frequent rail services running an almost 24 hour schedule to both
Preston and York on the West and East Coast lines respectively where
you can interconnect to the fast trains up as far as Inverness.
Trips to the Central Lowlands of Scotland are thus only 4-5 hours.
The other
(cheap) alternative to rail is
National Express coach in partnershop with Citylink in Scotland.
However, frequencies are much less than by rail and journey times
are invariably longer.
National Express Coaches also provide economic coach transfer and
Manchester Airport hotel packages, ideal if you have a very early
or late flight. |

Travel Manchester - Scotland |
The fares on the rail network are very complex with a bewildering
array of promotional fares. Broadly the cheapest fares are those purchased
well in advance.
For overseas visitors there are no true e-tickets, but the cheaper
advance purchase tickets can be bought in advance and collected at
Manchester Airport using special machines.
This is possible using 'The Trainline' online service, using the query
tool opposite. UK based travellers can have their tickets by mail
to UK addresses only.
