There
is a choice of direct public transport options from Manchester Airport
to Yorkshire and North East England including such towns and cities
as Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, York, Hull and Newcastle.
The predominant public transport transfer option in this area is train.
There are frequent direct trains from Manchester Airport across the
Pennine Hills to Leeds and Sheffield, this core line has a 24x7 service.
Direct trains run as far as Newcastle, with key interconnection hubs
at Leeds and York. |

|
|
Most
towns and cities in the North-east that do not have direct services
have a one stop interchange option with relatively high frequencies.
The rail service into Manchester runs up to 5 or 6 trains an hour
and
from here there are increased frequencies across the Pennines.
The main
alternative to rail is National
Express coach. National Express run economical services to most
major towns and cities in North-west England.
However frequencies are much less than by rail and journey times are
invariably longer. Often there are higher frequencies from Manchester
City Centre coach station but interconnecting adds significantly to
total journey time.
National Express Coaches also provide economic coach transfer and
Manchester Airport hotel packages, ideal if you have a very early
or late flight. |

Cost,Frequency
& Ticketing
The broad choice for the traveller is between cheaper, less frequent
coaches, more prone to delays through traffic or the usually much
more expensive train option.
The fares on the rail network are very complex with a bewildering
array of promotional fares. Broadly the cheapest fares are those purchased
well in advance.
For overseas visitors there are no true e-tickets, but the cheaper
advance purchase tickets can be bought in advance and collected at
Manchester Airport using special machines. This is possible using
'The Trainline' online service, using the query tool below. UK based
travellers can have their tickets by mail to UK addresses only.

core route connecting Manchester Airport with Manchester City Centre
is to Piccadilly Station in the City Centre. Services run 5 or 6 times
an hour during the day and a full 24x7 service is operated.
From Manchester Airport there are two lines which cross the Pennines.
The South Pennine route goes via Stockport to Sheffield, the North
Pennine route goes to Leeds and onto York. At York the line merges
with the main East Coast line from London to Scotland.

run direct broadly at 30 minute intervals. All other destinations
if not served direct can be accessed from these key interchanges.
