There
is a choice of direct public transport options from Manchester Airport
to North Wales and English Midlands, including such towns and cities
as Chester, Shrewsbury, Birmingham, Nottingham and Leicester.
The predominant public transport transfer option in this area is train.
Nearly all rail journeys require going North into Manchester before
doubling back southwards. There is an hourly service from Manchester
Airport to Crewe, a key railway junction where the main trunk railway
from London splits with lines into North Wales and up the West Coast
to Scotland. |

There
are more frequent services from Manchester City Centre, there are
4-5 trains an hour from Manchester Airport to here. Trains run through
Stoke from Piccadilly Station to Birmingham and beyond. The South
Pennine route from here opens up the East Midlands and cities such
as Nottingham and Derby.
The main
alternative to rail is National
Express coach. National Express run economical services to most
major towns and cities in North-west England.
However frequencies are much less than by rail and journey times are
invariably longer. Often there are higher frequencies from Manchester
City Centre coach station but interconnecting adds significantly to
total journey time.
National Express Coaches also provide economic coach transfer and
Manchester Airport hotel packages, ideal if you have a very early
or late flight. |

interchange called 'The Station'. All public transport arrives and
departs here.
The train, bus and coach stations are all in one purpose built area
directly connected to all terminals by covered moving walkways and

The fares on the rail network are very complex with a bewildering
array of promotional fares. Broadly the cheapest fares are those purchased
well in advance.
For overseas visitors there are no true e-tickets, but the cheaper
advance purchase tickets can be bought in advance and collected at
Manchester Airport using special machines.
This is possible using 'The Trainline' online service, using the query
tool opposite. UK based travellers can have their tickets by mail
to UK addresses only.
