Hotels
near Sportcity Manchester are not numerous and on match days
you need to have reserved your room very well in advance.
Sportcity was the centrepiece of the XVII Commonwealth Games in the
summer of 2002. After the commonwealth games, the centrepiece City
of Manchester Stadium was adopted as the home of Manchester City Football
Club. In
addition to the City of Manchester Stadium there are other sporting
venues in the immediate vicinity.

Manchester
Velodrome is an internationally renowned venue for track cycling and
other major sporting events. The Centre was developed as a joint venture
between the English Sports Council, Manchester City Council and the
British Cycling Federation and is one of only two facilities in the
country to be awarded British Olympic Association Accreditation. It
is an integral part of the Sport City complex.
There are also other sporting facilities in the same area including
a regional athletics track. |

There
are few hotels in the immediate vicinity, certainly nowhere enough
come a major event. If there is not an event there are three modern
chain hotels in the vicinity offering attractive and competitively
priced accommodation, (see bottom of the page).
For most people using public transport it is convenient to stay
in a city centre hotel only 3kms away. Manchester Piccadilly is
the closest mainline station to SportCity and is just a 20 minute
walk from the City of Manchester Stadium.
Ashburys
is a smaller station situated to the south on Alan Turning Way and
is a 15 minute walk to the stadium.
